Maui Twilight Time

The transition from day into night on Maui can be spectacular and glorious. Each day is unique; on some days the most dramatic moment is when the sun crosses the horizon and sinks into the ocean. On other days the most spectacular play of changing colors is observed on the clouds across the sky long after the sun has set. These photographs are offered to those who wish to contemplate the event from afar, or perhaps rekindle the glory of some of their own experiences while visiting Maui. Clicking on any picture will open a larger version in a new window, perhaps with some commentary. Commentary, however, has been kept to a minimum, enough to stimulate the imagination but not substitute for it, as the sunsets speak eloquently enough for themselves.

This group of sunsets was taken from Maui's west coast or from the top of Haleakala. The photos appear pretty much as the camera took them. No attempt was made to use computer applications to make them look more "awesome." Nature had already done a thorough enough job.
